MP for Labrador
Yvonne Jones
Premier Dunderdale Out of Touch with the People of Labrador
The Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador has once again shown her disdain for the people of Labrador by letting them know who owns Labrador. In a news report on July 23, by CBC television, the Premier was quoted as saying “They absolutely do not believe that we own Labrador, I’ve really firmly believe that.” The Member of Parliament for Labrador was astonished and shocked at the premier’s comments.
“In all my years of dealing with Labrador issues and bringing Labrador concerns to the forefront, I have never heard such careless and thoughtless use of the english language,” said MP Yvonne Jones. “To think, that in this day and age that the leader of our province feels that Newfoundland has entitlement over the people of Labrador, shows archaic and misguided leadership.”
The people of Labrador continue to struggle with the fact that all of its natural resources are shipped out, without much concern to better the lives of Labradorians. The provincial government has yet to announce a new northern strategic plan for the region, even after the five year end-date of its much touted Northern Strategic Plan went by in 2012.
Ms. Jones went on to say, “Where is the premier? I would like to ask the premier, why did you not visit during the fires in Labrador West. Why do we not see you at our wonderful festivals and events happening all over Labrador? What is your Government doing for Labrador? I say to the premier, you may think you own Labrador, but I am one Labradorian, and many others with me will say, you don’t own us and you don’t know us.”
