MP for Labrador
Yvonne Jones
Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, is hosting community meetings on suicide prevention and mental health conversations through the 308 Conversations initiative:
“I am pleased to help organize and facilitate an important discussion about suicide prevention as well as discussing ways to improve our mental health system”, said Jones. “We all have a role to play in tackling mental health issues and discussing what is working, what isn’t, and how each of us can work to reduce any gaps in the system”.
308 Conversations is a grassroots initiative led in partnership with the Mental Health Commission of Canada. It has worked across the country to start community meetings about suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention.
“Unfortunately, suicide and mental health issues have played a large role in Labrador in recent years. We need to continue working to ensure that all partners involved in suicide prevention are effectively working together to ensure there are no gaps in assistance and prevention”, said Jones.
“We have some very dedicated individuals across the Big Land working to address the mental health stigma, and work to eliminate suicide. I would like to sincerely thank all the individuals who are participating in these community meetings. I would especially like to thank those who have the courage to speak about their own battles, so that we may understand one another and develop the proper support for others.”
