FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 10th, 2014
MP for Labrador
Yvonne Jones
Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador was pleased to see continued progress on the Kami Iron Ore project in western Labrador:
“I was pleased to see the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador release the Kami project from the Provincial Environmental Assessment process. This project by the Alderon Iron Ore Corporation is another sign that Labrador is open for business, though we still expect all companies to follow the Federal and Provincial environmental regulations in order to preserve our beautiful land and way of life.”
Ms. Jones went on the comment on the remaining aspects required to bring this project to completion:
“Now that we have passed this important step, we need the provincial government to move immediately on building the transmission lines required for the Kami project. The building of this transmission line will pay for itself and should require no additional revenue from Labrador rate payers. There is a wide consensus that the construction of these transmission lines must start immediately, and I urge the government to deliver on this. The sooner the Kami project can operate at peak capacity, the better. This will create many jobs in Newfoundland and Labrador, pump tax revenue into the government coffers, and further cement Labrador’s role in the world as a leader in Iron Ore production.”
