MP for Labrador
Yvonne Jones
The initiative by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to construct a third transmission line to Labrador West is a positive move for Labradorians and the northern economy, says Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador.
“I am very pleased to see that a third transmission line will stretch from Churchill Falls to Labrador West. Building infrastructure that will power the industries of Labrador will provide opportunities, not only today, but in the future for Labradorians. I fully support the decision of the provincial government to move this project forward and will be looking to maximize benefits for Labradorians.”
With the recent announcement that Cliffs Natural Resources is idling their Scully Mine, this new project comes at a great time of need for Labradorians. Ms. Jones believes that part of maximizing the projects benefits includes “insuring that construction jobs are available to Labradorians first. This should help relieve the pressure of displaced skilled workers in Wabush from the recent mine closure.”
This new transmission line will also greatly benefit the Kami Iron Ore project and other industry development projects in the future.
Ms. Jones is looking forward to working with Alderon and the provincial government to move this forward.
