Small Communities Fund Support Announced for L’Anse au Loup
Friday, May 20, 2016 – Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, and Lisa Dempster, Member of the House of Assembly for Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair, are pleased to announce today joint federal and provincial funding for the Brook Road water and sewer upgrades in L’Anse au Loup.
The much-needed upgrades will be paid for with an investment of $36,319 from the municipal government of L’Anse au Loup, an investment of $121,062 from the federal government via Infrastructure Canada, and an investment of $205,805 from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“On behalf of our new federal government, I’m excited for the opportunities available for infrastructure investments in Labrador,” said MP Yvonne Jones, who serves as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs. “Our government has a plan to invest $120 billion over the next 10 years, starting with almost $12 billion this year. With a focus on green, social, indigenous, rural, and northern infrastructure investment, Labrador is well-positioned to receive the attention it has been lacking. I will continue to work hard to help our communities grow and prosper.”
MHA Lisa Dempster says she is very happy to see an intergovernmental plan to invest in infrastructure for her district.
“These are infrastructure upgrades that will benefit the people of L’Anse au Loup for many years to come,” Dempster said. “This commitment to improving Labrador’s infrastructure has been a long time coming. This is just a start for our two levels of government working more closely together for the benefit of Labrador communities.”
The Small Communities Fund is a component of the New Building Canada Fund, which invests in provincial and territorial infrastructure across the country.
