Benjamin Powell, known to all far and wide as Uncle Ben, has passed on; we acknowledge his contributions and celebrate his loyal and dedicated Service to Labrador.
He was a Labradorian by choice and titled his first of 19 books the same. His first love was his wife Effie who predeceased him and his family, equal to that was Labrador and his home community of Charlottetown, a community he founded and settled in 1950. One of Labrador’s youngest communities thrived into a flourishing rural town because of love and hard work of Uncle Ben and the people who joined him in making Charlottetown their home.
They say those who live with Purpose die with dignity and with pride, and they live on forever in celebration.
On behalf of all Labradorians I offer my sincere condolences to Uncle Ben’s Family, his children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. You have a tremendous legacy to uphold; one that will be a pillar in the History of Labrador.
Today we mourn your loss.
