 Labrador City – July 12th, 2016

Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, is pleased to announce federal funding for Labrador City water and waste water treatment infrastructure. All funding is cost shared by Federal, ‎Provincial and Municipal Governments.

“The Government of Canada laid out an historic plan in Budget 2016 to invest more than $120 billion in infrastructure over the next ten years. I am very proud of this plan which promises to help further accelerate economic growth and create jobs here in Labrador and across the country, and help us build strong, inclusive and sustainable communities.” – MP Jones

The total phase one federal funding for Labrador City water and waste water is nearly $3.4 Million towards total project costs of over $7.4 million, cost shared with the federal, provincial and municipal governments

This is just the start, phase two will be rolling out in the very near future. I have consulted with Labrador municipal governments on their priorities as well as gathering input on redesigning infrastructure programming so that Labrador communities have better access to programs in the coming years.

QUOTES

“These investments will help Labrador City to meet the need of providing water and waste water to residents,” says Jones. Many communities across Labrador applied under this first phase of funding; these first 15 Projects will provide investment in all 4 regions of Labrador.  “I am very happy to see both the Federal and Provincial Government stepping up to support the needs of the Labrador Region.

It has been a pleasure to work with the Labrador MHA’s, Municipalities and Minister Eddie Joyce, NL and my colleague Minister Amarjeet Sohi, Canada to provide these investments in Labrador.” MP Yvonne Jones said.

‎“The three projects for the Town of Labrador City in this announcement will mean that more than $7 million will be invested in much-needed waste water and storm sewer improvements for the town.
