Labrador Communities: At the Heart of Celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of Confederation in 2017

Saturday November 19th, 2016, Labrador City

Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador today announced funding of $100,000 to Gateway Labrador for their community project: the Great Canadian Life Project. She made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.

Thanks to this support, provided by the Government of Canada through the Canada 150 Fund, Gateway Labrador will host a series of themed activities to highlight inclusion and diversity and national reconciliation with first nations. Activities to take place seasonally throughout 2017. Celebrations will include recreational activities, crafting and training workshops, cultural expositions, musical celebrations and so much more!

To make 2017 a year that all Canadians will remember, the Government of Canada will continue to invest in local, regional and Canada-wide projects.

The 150th anniversary of Confederation gives Canadians the opportunity to celebrate our shared values, our achievements, our majestic environment and our country’s place in the world. It is also an ideal opportunity for Canadians to get involved in their communities.

As we prepare for a year of celebration, the Government of Canada invites all Canadians to take part in activities surrounding the Canada 150 countdown. This is an opportunity for all of us to express what it means to be Canadian and how we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

“Gateway Labrador is delighted to introduce The Great Canadian Life Project as a celebration of what it means to be Canadian and how that meaning has been shaped over the last 150 years. As advocates of cultural preservation and awareness, Gateway Labrador in partnership with the communities of Labrador City and Wabush, propose to host a series of events and expositions that showcase the rich heritage and traditions of Labrador and to celebrate the diverse Canadian culture. We are excited to have this opportunity to celebrate this incredible milestone with the rest of Canada and we appreciate the support of Government on this initiative. We also look forward to working collectively with other organizations within our community to highlight the best of the best in this Great Canadian Life.”
