Yesterday, MP Yvonne Jones visited the Great North Data (GND) Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, one of two data centres the company operates in Labrador. Ms. Jones is pleased to share the work the centre has done and the contributions they’ve made to the region of Labrador.
Great North Data is a data mining corporation whose work is a growing asset to the economic development of Labrador. With the inclusion of property purchases, they’ve invested over $9 million over the course of 5 years. $5-6 million of this total has been invested in contractors and equipment almost entirely hired and purchased from local sources in Labrador. The company provides well-paying employment opportunities for those with a diverse range of educational backgrounds, including computer science and technical trades. They currently employ 25 full-time and 4 part-time staff, and have intentions to grow this number with an additional 15-20 full time employees by December 2018. The company anticipates sales exceeding $6 million by the end of this year, which should only double throughout 2019. Great North Data is a valued presence in Labrador – for both the current boost it provides to our economy, and that it will into the future.
