STATEMENT ON CANADA SUMMER JOBS 2018 BY MP YVONNE JONES
December 31, 2017

June 11, 2018

The Government of Canada understands that the future of our economy depends on the success of our younger generations. This is why the Canada Summer Jobs program has doubled the number of jobs it has created since 2015, resulting in meaningful, paid work experience for almost 70,000 students per year. For the summer of 2018, more than 3,000 employers are first-time funding recipients; ensuring thousands of young Canadians receive new experiences in a diverse range of employment areas. These include small businesses, not-for-profit organizations and the public sector. This year’s jobs fulfill five national priorities, designated by the Government of Canada, including:

In the region of Labrador, the federal Government contributed $447,839 in funding for the 188 jobs that have been approved.  Through Canada Summer Jobs, young Labradorians are granted the opportunity to grow their skills, experience and résumés – all while earning money for themselves. For many this will establish a path towards successful, long term careers that benefit the communities these students are a part of.
