Canada Summer Jobs opportunities now available for young Canadians in Labrador

May, 13 2021 HAPPY VALLEY GOOSE BAY, NL I Employment and Social Development Canada

Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador on behalf of the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough, has announced over 340 Canada Summer Jobs opportunities in Labrador are now available at jobbank.gc.ca/youth.

This year’s program invested over $1 million on good jobs for Labrador’s young people as they work towards their education and career goals.

This means more than 340 job opportunities are available for youth throughout Labrador. There are many great placements for Labrador youth this year. From pitching in with community programming at the Happy-Valley Goose Bay YMCA or doing your part to keep Red Bay a welcoming spot for locals and visitors, there is something for everyone.

For creative types or history fanatics, organizations like Them Days and the Heritage Society have openings for eager students this summer. Lovers of the outdoors can lend a hand at Amaruk Golf Course or the Hunting and Fishing Association.

Our investment in Labrador youth and Labrador’s economy means institutions like Nunatsiavut Government can offer great work experience for local youth while contributing to their communities’ long-term goals.

This year’s Canada Summer Jobs program has a job for whatever a student’s interest may be. As they are subject to availability, students are encouraged to look at jobbank.ca/youth for the most up to date placements.

With this year’s record-breaking number of job opportunities, more young people in Labrador can discover different careers, gain meaningful experiences, and save up for school.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on all Canadians, but especially on young Canadians. That is why the Government of Canada continues to make historic investments to ensure that youth have the supports and opportunities they need to build long and successful careers.

In response to the ongoing pandemic, the Government is giving employers the flexibilities to hire youth to work on a full-time or part-time basis, as well as beyond the summer months, with some placements extending to February 2022.

Supporting youth and ensuring their participation in all aspects of the economic recovery takes a collaborative and government-wide approach. Through Budget 2021, the Government is proposing to invest an additional $5.7 billion over the next five years to help young Canadians pursue and complete their education, acquire new skills and access more work opportunities. This is on top of the $7.4 billion already invested in young Canadians during the pandemic. Thousands more young Canadians will be able to benefit from the following historic Government actions:

Taken together, the Government of Canada’s response to the current crisis represents one of the largest youth support packages in the world.

Quotes

“This year’s Canada Summer Jobs program goes above and beyond to help support young Canadians through this pandemic. With a record-setting 150,000 job opportunities, more young Canadians across the country will be able to find a job and gain meaningful experience that they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives. There is only one way to describe the investments we have made and continue to make in young Canadians, and that is: ground-breaking. Our plan for a strong economic recovery includes youth and recognizes their important role in our future. We will always be there to support the next generation.”

– Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough

“This past year, young people all over Canada have been navigating a very challenging path due to the COVID-19 crisis, including youth in Labrador. Right now, many young people in Labrador are looking for safe and secure job opportunities. With this record-setting number of job opportunities, the Canada Summer Jobs program will be there to help youth earn money, grow professionally and move forward in their lives. I strongly encourage young people in Labrador who are looking for work to go to Job Bank and check out the Canada Summer Jobs opportunities available for them in our community.”

– Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador
