Federal government investment puts Happy Valley-Goose Bay on the road to a new public transit system
Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, May 13, 2024 — Happy Valley-Goose Bay will have a new public transit system after an investment of $840,000 from the federal and provincial governments and the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
This project was announced by Parliamentary Secretary Yvonne Jones and Mayor George Andrews. This new transit system will be available to all Happy Valley-Goose Bay residents, enabling them to attend school, go to work and medical appointments, and do their day-to-day activities. Investments in public transit will make Happy Valley-Goose Bay more inclusive and enhance the quality of life for residents with limited transportation options.
This project features the purchase of an electric bus, two charging stations, the establishment of bus stops and bus shelters, as well as signage. Funding will also support the development of a transit application to provide commuters with up to date information on the transit service.
Investing in public transit infrastructure is fundamental to economic growth, reducing air pollution, and creating inclusive communities where everyone has access to public services and employment opportunities.
