King Charles III’s Coronation Medals

What is the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal?

A Canadian commemorative medal has been created to mark His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation on May 6, 2023. The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a visible and tangible way to recognize 30 000 outstanding individuals of all ages and from all walks of life who have made a difference in their communities.

The Medal will highlight themes that both King Charles III and Canadians hold dear, including service, the environment and sustainability, and our nation’s diversity.

Nominations should focus on the achievements of persons who have helped build the Canada of today, including youth, volunteers, educators, veterans and health care workers.

Nominees may be selected for their long service and good conduct as a volunteer or member of an organization; for having demonstrated high professionalism; or for performing a deed or activity that brings great credit to Canada.

Nominees must be individuals, and can’t be self-nominated. We encourage nominations that reflect an inclusive group of community members who will have made their impact in diverse ways.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this honour, a person must have:

  • Made a significant contribution to the country, a province, territory, region or community, or made an outstanding achievement abroad, or has made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada; and

  • Been alive on May 6, 2023, the date of His Majesty’s Coronation. Nominations can be made posthumously, as long as the nominee was alive on that date.

The Medal may only be awarded once.
