October 25, 2024 — Ottawa, Ontario

Today, MP Yvonne Jones rose in the House of Commons to recognize an extraordinary Labradorian, William Larkham Jr., for his remarkable achievement on Season 11 of the hit reality show Alone, aired on the History Channel.

William Larkham Jr., who hails from the small outport community of William Harbour, Labrador, demonstrated exceptional resilience, survival skills, and an unbreakable connection to the land during his 84-day journey in the Arctic. Competing as one of 10 contestants, William was the last person standing in the unforgiving environment north of the Arctic Circle near Inuvik in the Northwest Territories, securing the grand prize of $500,000 USD.

“William’s strength, endurance, and knowledge of the land were on full display, and he made all of Labradorians proud,” said MP Jones. “His incredible journey showcased not only his individual skills but also the deep connection we, as Labradorians, share with our land and waters. These are the skills passed down through generations, and William’s success is a true testament to our enduring spirit of survival.”

William's journey captured the hearts of viewers, bringing people across Labrador and Canada to the edge of their seats as they watched him battle harsh Arctic conditions *alone*. His achievement is a source of immense pride for the entire community, inspiring both young and old with his perseverance and determination.

"I want to congratulate William on his outstanding performance and success. His commitment to survival, his ability to overcome the toughest obstacles, and his love for our land are nothing short of inspiring. Labrador and Canada are proud of you, William," MP Jones added in her statement.

William Larkham Jr.'s victory on Alone not only showcases his incredible survival skills but also highlights the resilience and strength of Labradorians everywhere.
